Emergencies
If your child has been injured or is experiencing discomfort, please call our office at 435-649-4848. After-hours calls will be referred to an emergency number. For serious situations that require immediate assistance, call 911 or go the nearest emergency room.
- Cleanse the area around the sore tooth.
- Rinse vigorously with warm salt water or use dental floss to dislodge trapped food.
- Administer an age-appropriate dose of Ibuprofen or Acetaminophen for pain.
- Call us at 435-649-4848 to make an appointment to have your child’s mouth examined.
- Handle the tooth by the top (crown) only. Do not touch the root.
- Rinse the tooth but do not clean or handle it.
- Try to re-insert the tooth into its socket. If you are successful, have your child hold the tooth in place by biting on a clean cloth or gauze.
- If the tooth cannot be re-inserted, place it in milk and bring your child to our office immediately.
- Control any bleeding by folding and packing clean gauze over the area.
- Have your child bite down with some pressure for about 15 minutes.
- Call us at 435-649-4848 for further instruction.
- Rinse dirt from the injured area with warm water.
- Place a cold compress over the face where the injury occurred.
- Collect and save all broken tooth fragments and contact our office for further instruction on emergency treatment.
Surgical Care
Patients who require extensive care as a result of trauma, infection or other oral health concerns may need general anesthesia in the hospital. They perform surgeries, act as advisors for emergency room personnel and collaborate with other healthcare providers to achieve oral and overall health and well-being.
